Is it okay to feed cooked frozen shrimp to my anemone?

So I bought farm raised cooked white shrimp from the fish section at Whole Foods, is this the right type of shrimp to feed my anemone? I was going to cut it up and feed it a piece every few days or whenever. I'm just not sure if it is safe since it says it's cooked shrimp, any one know?

yes. I feed cooked on occasion. I did not see any bad things happen. Just small pieces tho. Think pencil eraser sized for bigger nems. Smaller for others.

Gigs, haddoni, btas.. they all have had it more then once. But I definitely do not feed them regularly.

I would not. If nothing else, it will be a lot harder to digest I would think.

So it would have to be completely raw shrimp? Do they sell that in the frozen section of stores?

I'm not sure how it was cooked, it looks raw but it was in those displays where they sell all fish and other sea food.

Personally, I'd only feed raw, but as the other poster mentioned, I guess it's ok. I would feel safer if I cooked it myself as oppose to purchased it pre-cooked in which I do not know if any seasoning or preservatives were added.

it was boiled or steamed by the grocery store or more likely just thawed from a distributor

If you want to be safe just buy 1 or 2 raw shrimp from the display.

Also, not sure if it's common practice anymore or not but I thought grocery stores will sometimes spray preservative, sodium triphosphate I think, on it's seafood. If it's from the deli, you can ask.

People use it to raise their phos... pretty harmless. Rinse your chopped up shrimp in ro/di water before feeding if u worry.

Agreed. I think raw is probably better nutrition, but it should still be fine.

I would only give raw, yes you can buy them from the frozen section of the supermarket.
I wouldn't feed a few times a week as you mentioned in your op, that is a lot.

Personally, I use the LRS food for my nems. The nano for the babies and the chunky/predator for the massive ones (at least the size of my full spread hand). Sometimes I make my own food if there's a good sale at the supermarket. Raw scallops, clams, human grade fish, and shrimp, blended for 1 minute, rest for 2 minutes, repeat until it's a good consistency, add RODI water if necessary. Freeze and treat like any other frozen food.

If you are shopping at Whole Foods they usually have the Wild Caught Key West Pink Shrimp which are raw. The have them fresh in the fish department or in like a 1lb back in the frozen section. I try to stick with wild caught vs. farm raised.

I was just there and I didn't see it in the fish section, the raw shrimp I'm talking about. I guess I will have to check again and ask the guy working there. I will look for raw shrimp next time I go. I didn't realize the one I bought was cooked, I assumed it was raw since it was in the display with other fish stuff. Thanks!

IMO if you can just grab a coral feeder, when I spot feed I just put my Reef Frenzy mix into it's mouth almost. it has water drop size chunks of everything. Otherwise you can make a raw blend yourself.

Id recommend just grabbing a raw blend from the LFS though, they make them pretty cheap nowadays and they last about 6 months. Takes the smell and headache out of your kitchen.
